Getting Social

Ok I admit I'm a pretty social sort of girl and have been on Myspace and Facebook for quite a while. I have just recently converted my daughter to Facebook and now I get Superpoked every 5 minutes (more fool me!). I played on SecondLife for a while but I really didn't enjoy it. I like living in the real world and making the most of it. I'll persist with SecondLife for a while and see if it grabs my like it has others, but I'm not holding much hope. My stepdaughters use Skype to talk to their garndparents on the Central Coast and their many relatives overseas. It's a terrific way to stay in touch with loved ones, especially when you're watching kids grow up. It's also really cheap!!

Google maps

I've used this feature many times, I think it's terrific. My kids love finding their school and house on it. The funniest (well maybe not) story I heard recently was a man who looked up his house on Google maps and saw his wife's car in the driveway and another car (of one of his mates), he pressed her for the reason why she was at home with him and she caved in and admitted to having an affair. The story was told by his daughter who was happy that her Dad had found out early enough that his wife was a cheater and he was able to move on while he had time!!

Working at Google

More companies should follow Googles lead and I'm sure they would get much more out of their employees!!

iGoogle

Wow, in an instant I have a google page where I can watch the latest stories etc on exactly what I want. My tabs at the moment are Sports, Cooking and Technology and the page looks really cool. Here's the link http://www.google.com/ig I hope it works from here!

Discovery Resources

When I was reading about the best places to get books for free on the Friedbeef website I found the a site that allows you to clean up your iTunes Library - called Tuneup. I'm really enjoying the things I have found while progressing through this Taste of Web 2.0 experience. I'm glad I joined up and it has definitely been worth the discovery!

Downloadable audio books

Again I have just found something new! I sat at my computer and had a travel book on France and places to see read out to me! How fabulous. Reading about Project Gutenberg was very interesting. Their target of 15% of the world having electronic books available to them in the next decade is astounding. The time these volunteers must put in to enable the world to have access to books they may never have been able to get their hands on is unbelievable. The fact that Project Gutenberg was around long before the internet was and it has thrived is also amazing.

I also enjoyed searching the books on overdrive downloadable media, well done Yarra Plenty for building such a terrific library online. I must admit, I'm not such a reader of books as I just can't find the time, but could easily sit at my desk and listen to one being read to me - very therapeutic I think!

Podcasts

I regularly Podcast the Hamish and Andy show on 2day fm in Sydney if I miss an episode or something funny. They Podcast everything so you can always catch up if you miss them get up to mischief!

You tube

I love the things that pop up on You Tube and my kids seem facinated by it. It's amazing how much this website has grown over the past few years. I explored brilliant soccer goals (being a mad soccer fan) and found this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_lqMi4ykxg, it's listed as the best soccer goal ever and believe me it's gotta be close!

Librarything

Wow! I never realised this website existed and I work in a large Library. I'm sure we could incorporate this type of website into our Library and that's exactly why I'm doing the taste of Web 2.0 Activities. I found some other die hard Steve Waugh fans when I started to enter the books I have read into my Library! I explored the comments but couldn't find any, the ratings of his books were good though so I thought that said enough for me! Here is the link to my catalogue http://www.librarything.com/catalog/Lhan. I'm sure I'll have fun adding to it and exploring the online world of Librarything!

Exploring Flickr

I had a great time exploring Flickr and finding out new things I hadn't known before (I have played with it before). I was able to load the photos from my daughters soccer grand final and share them with all the parents from the team. They were all thrilled as most of them had forgotten to bring their cameras on the day with all the excitement!

I found this great photo on Flickr - I love flowers and there's so many to choose from!

Online image generators

I've had a play with online image generators and had lots of fun with them although I did find them a little tricky to download on some websites. Some of the websites listed did not connect either but I have found a new way to make fun images. I think I'll keep playing and make a new image for my Facebook page!

Setting up my Blog

Well I didn't have too much trouble setting up my blog it's just a matter of finding the time to update it. I hope you've all managed to set up your blogs and I look forward to having a look through them. I'm going to explore flickr more fully and I'll report back what interested me and what didn't!
